BRAISED CHICKEN
Ingredients:
- Chicken - 500 gm (thigh fillets)
- Curd - 2 cups
- Oil - 1/4 cup
- Ginger Garlic paste - 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
- Cardamoms - 3nos.
- Cloves - 2
- Sesame seeds - 1 tsp
- Cinnamon - 1/2 inch(broken into small pieces)
- Black cumin seeds - 1 tsp
- Garam masala powder - 1/4 tsp
- Onions - 2 (thinly sliced)
- Chilli powder - 2 tsp
- Salt to taste
Ground Together:
- Almonds - 1 tbsp
- Poppy seeds - 1 tsp
- Mint leaves - few
- Lemon juice - 1/4 tsp
For Serving:
- Steamed saffron rice (or) Steamed Basmathi rice (or) Chapathi
Method:
Apply turmeric powder to the chicken pieces and keep for 5 minutes. Wash thoroughly.
In a spice grinder, grind cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and cumin seeds to powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, combine curd, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, sesame seeds , ground masala and salt. Add chicken and mix well.Marinate in the refrigerator for one hour.
In a sauce pan heat oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in marinated chicken and mix well.
Reduced heat to medium flame to low and cook, uncovered, turning chicken and stirring sauce occasionally, until chicken is cooked through 25 to 30 minutes.
Stir in ground spices mix well. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes. Serve hot with Steamed saffron rice (or) Steamed Basmathi rice (or) Chapathi.
